Until now, I’ve been giving you little snippets of our pet each week via Hop Day with Izzy.  However, given that most of the emails I get are about rabbit advice, or questions about Izzy, I figured I’d start a new segment here on Bashful Bao.

I’m calling it Funtime Buntime since I’m posting them on the weekends, and in these posts I’m going to talk about sharing life with a house rabbit.

As this is the first post, I’m just going to give you some history about me, and how I came to own the particular house rabbit you see above.  Then, each week, I’ll explore a different topic.  If there’s something you want to know about and see as a topic here, please email me!  I’d love to hear your feedback about this little venture.

Ok, so let’s start at the beginning.  I never, ever thought I’d own a rabbit one day.  I was raised with cats, always having at least two in the house.  I’m pretty smitten with felines, though I also had a standard poodle growing up as well.  Still, I’d definitely label myself a cat person.  Cue the childhood mini montage.

You get the idea.  I was pretty happy with cats as a child.

Enter my husband.  While we were dating, it didn’t matter to me that he was allergic to cats. When we got engaged, it still didn’t matter—I loved him enough to sacrifice ever owning a cat again.  (That’s true love people.)

When we moved in together after graduating from college, we found ourselves a little lonely.  Knowing cats were out of the question, and a dog was too much of a commitment, and all things scaly were definitely out of the picture, we somehow came to settle on one conclusion, even if it was by accident.

We wanted something that would interact with us, a fuzzy little body that would do more than sit in a cage all day and eat and sleep.  And as fate would have it, that very autumn (almost 2 years ago) we ended up bringing home our first bunny, Isadora, or as we call her Izzy.

One Happy Family!

Next week, I plan on talking about bunny basics—firstly, where to get your bun, and following, what your bun will need as you start your lives together.  I hope you enjoyed the first installment of Funtime Buntime!  Catch you next week!
